DLSU Eco Team qualifies for World Driving Title

De La Salle University’s Eco Car Team has qualified in the Shell Eco-Marathon Driver’s World Championships to be held in London in July.

The DLSU team claimed its spot to be one of the 24 student teams in the international race for the most energy-efficient driver after winning 1st place in the Battery-Electric subcategory in the Urban Concept category of this year’s Shell Eco-Marathon Asia held in Manila.

Over 100 teams of young student engineers from universities across the Philippines represented the country in this year’s Asian leg of the SEM.

The DLSU team won USD2,000 for its school after winning the top award in its category.

The introduction this year of the Drivers’ World Championships puts drivers in head-to-head competition in the traditional a traditional racing car format while maintaining the need to drive their eco-friendly cars efficiently.

The Shell Eco-Marathon is a yearly competition that challenges students around the world to create, design, and drive the most energy-efficient car. Students from different universities were challenged to use science, technology and innovation in addressing climate change. Other top finishers in the Philippines included Mapua Institute of Technology, which won 2nd place in the Petrol fuel subcategory and Team Lahutay 4 from University of San Carlos which won 3rd place in Diesel fuel subcategory.

DLSU also stood out in the annual competition in 2015, winning 1st place in the Save Gasoline subcategory. The school’s engineering students bagged 2nd place in the same category this year.
