Filipino soap opera on Mexican TV

Mga Mata Ni Anghelita

A famous Filipino soap opera (teleserye) will soon make its debut on Mexican primetime television. Mexico's Televisa has bought the rights to air GMA 7's “Mga Mata Ni Anghelita.”

Televisa executives said they bought the 70 episodes of Mga Mata Ni Anghelita because of one important factor - its religious theme. Historically, there are major similarities between the Philippines and Mexico because they were two of the first countries to be colonized by Spain in the 16th century, that is why religious practices and traditions are very similar.

Mga Mata Ni Anghelita began its telecast in GMA-7 primetime block last July 2007 as part of the Kapuso network's 57th anniversary offering.

It starred Krystal Reyes in the title role together with Sheryl Cruz, Carmina Villarroel, Ms. Celia Rodriguez , Tonton Gutierrez, Paolo Contis, Isabel Oli, and Marvin Agustin as the Guardian Angel Gabriel. The soap opera also had the special participation of Lucy Torres-Gomez as the Virgin Mary. This was from the direction of Khryss Adalia and Gil Tejada.
