Seventeen ancestral homes from all over the Philippines have been conserved by their owners and turned into historical spots to be enjoyed by the public.

Esquire magazine listed the 17 heritage houses that have been saved for their historical value and repurposed into hotels, museums, restaurants, and the likes, to be profitable.

  1. La Casita Mercedes, Makati City
    Pre-war residence repurposed into a bed and breakfast

  2. Dycaico Ancestral House, Angeles City, Pampanga
    Now the home to Chef Sau’s 25 Seeds Restaurant, a multi-purpose hall with a rural bank and tutorial center

  3. Cafe Apolonio, Bustos, Bulacan
    Formerly the Casa Apolonio of the 1850s, the café serves Filipino and Spanish cuisine

  4. Camalig Restaurant, Angeles, Pampanga
    Grain depot for 100 years before being repurposed into a restaurant that offers the classic family recipe of Armando’s Pizza

  5. 1335 Mabini, Mabini, Ermita, Manila
    Originally the Casa Tesoro vacation house that is now a contemporary art gallery

  6. Casa Vallejo, Upper Session Road, Baguio
    1900s Boutique Hotel, one of the oldest, and main tourist attractions with a restaurant, cinematheque, spa, and bookshop

  7. The Henry Hotel, Manila
    Formerly a compound of over five houses that used to be the home to a Filipino-Chinese business owner and his family in the 1940s, is now home to a hotel, the Avella Art Gallery, and fashion design house of Jojie Lloren

  8. Limbaga 77, Quezon City
    A former 1940s-style home is now a restaurant on Timog

  9. Paradores del Castillo, Taal, Batangas
    Spanish-American home built in 1900s now turned to a luxury hotel, bed and breakfast

  10. The Mansion, Silay City, Negros Occidental
    The house of Adela Ledesma built in 1920, is now a café and artist space

  11. Cafe 1925, Silay City, Negros Occidental 
    The city’s heritage bakery, a coffee house that seats around 10 to 20 people

  12. La Planta Hotel, Bais City, Negros Oriental
    The former power plant is now converted into a 17-room hotel

  13. Plaza Central Inn and Halaran Plaza Hotel, Roxas City, Capiz
    Houses turned into Heritage district hotels

  14. Sans Rival Bistro in Dumaguete
    First floor of the ancestral home of Trinidad “Tita Trining” Teves-Sagarbarria, the founder of Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries, who popularized silvanas and sans rival

  15. Claude's Le Cafe de Ville, Davao City
    The Oboza Heritage House of 1929 turned into French café

  16. McDonald's, Plaza Rizal, Zamboanga City
    The 1928 neo-classic building for the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China now holds branches for McDonald's and Western Union

  17. Hacienda Don Juan, Glan, Sarangani
    Barrio house transformed into a restaurant and mini museum
