Fil-Am child actor stars with Oprah Winfrey in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time

Filipino-American child actor Deric McCabe is extremely excited to be part of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. The child actor portrays the role of a budding genius Charles Wallace in the film.

He stars alongside big Hollywood actors such as Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Michael Peña, André Holland, and Storm Reid.

9-year old Deric wasn’t frazzled whatsoever by his co-star Oprah Winfrey’s presence on set, even though it’s his first-ever major motion picture. McCabe took it all in stride and is one of the most memorable characters in the movie.

In Wrinkle, Charles Wallace accompanies his sister, Meg (Storm Reid) across space and time to find their missing father (Chris Pine). Along the way, they encounter strange people and places, but throughout maintain their love and support of one another.

Deric was seven and a half years old when he started filming the movie. He is almost 10 now and in fourth grade.

Deric who’s mom is Filipino craves for Arroz Caldo, a favorite Philippine porridge dish. He only speaks a little bit of Tagalog, and the only word Deric knows right now is “Maarte,” he said, “I am going to try my best to speak Tagalog” for the time when he finally gets to visit the Philippines.

A Wrinkle in Time opened in US theatres March 8 and will premiere in the Philippines on March 14.
