Filipinos will soon hold Philippine passports valid for 10 years instead of the current 5-years.

The new Philippine passports will be issued beginning January 2018, after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) released the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) that enables the implementation of Republic Act No. 10928 (2017), otherwise known as “An Act Extending the Validity of Philippine Passports,” which was enacted on 02 August 2017.

Under the IRR, the validity of current passports will be extended from 5 to 10 years, for Filipinos 18 years or older. Filipinos under 18 years will still be issued five-year valid passports.

The ten-year passport will cost PHP 950, which is the current price of a five-year passport.

The 10-year valid passports will take effect on 01 January 2018 to allow sufficient global notification, according to the DFA.
