Three of the four Binibining Pilipinas queens for the year 2022 are scheduled to compete in their respective international pageants this October.

Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental – Gabrielle Basiano is competing in Egypt on October 14, Binibining Pilipinas Globe – Chelsea Fernandez in Albania on October 15, and Binibining Pilipinas Grand International – Roberta Tamondong in Indonesia on October 25.

The three Filipina beauty queens were given a send-off party that was broadcast live on YouTube on September 19.

Here are the three candidates who will campaign to bring home a beauty title next month:

Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano

Gabby Basiano is a Filipino model who will represent the Philippines at the Miss Intercontinental 2022 pageant in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, this October 14.

Basiano of Borongan City successfully returned to Binibining Pilipinas 2022 after previously winning first runner-up, and earned the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown along with the right to represent the Philippines in the Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant.

Basiano spoke of her winning gown design as one that depicts the evolution of the P-Pop industry. She said “it represents the industry’s transition to modernization and fearless innovation. It speaks to my personality of taking risks and being unconventional.”

During the Question and Answer portion, she was asked by Senator Risa Hontiveros about how Bb. Pilipinas winners can celebrate beauty and goodwill in the face of toxicity against empowered women, and how to deal with fake news and other negative comments criticizing looks, intelligence, and the way a beauty queen lives her life.

Basiano answered, saying: “I have been receiving a lot of opinions from other people and I am not complaining about it because people are entitled of their own opinion. As for me, I will always remind women that we are strong, independent, and courageous because these are the traits that are very critical to the complicated roles that us women play into society.”

Gabrielle Basiano won the Miss Friendship International 2019 first runner-up title in Chengdu, China. She competed against 48 other applicants from across the globe.

She was also trained by Filipino pageant coach RL Lacanienta of RL’s Angels, who also trained the current Miss Universe Thailand.

On October 14, Gabrielle Basiano will campaign to take the back-to-back title and the third crown of the Philippines in the Miss Intercontinental Pageant following Miss Intercontinental 2021 Cindy Obenita and the first-ever Filipina to win Miss Intercontinental, Karen Gallman.

Bb. Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez

Chelsea Fernandez will compete in the Miss Globe competition on October 15 in Albania.

The 23-year-old Filipina beauty queen was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2022 and took home the special award of Bb. Ever Bilena.

In the Q & A portion of this year’s edition of Binibining Pilipinas, Fernandez was asked by Filipino broadcast journalist judge Rico Hizon, how crucial it is to reflect on our past and learn more about the people who made up our past in order to create a better tomorrow.

Chelsea answered, “I believe that it is really important and we should not disregard our history because why? It is part of our culture, it is part of our past, it is part of who we are today as a Filipinos.”

The confident and stunning Filipino model previously won the Miss Bikini Philippines 2020, Miss Earth Philippines Water 2019, and Reyna ng Aliwan 2018.

Chelsea Fernandez has expertise in and understanding of beauty pageants due to her work with several well-known designers and companies in the Philippines.

Chelsea Fernandez will also try to take the Philippines’ back-to-back title in the Miss Globe competition following fellow Filipina Miss Globe 2021 titleholder Maureen Montagne and the first-ever Filipina to win the competition, Ann Colis.

Bb. Pilipinas Grand International Roberta Tamondong

Roberta Angela “Ro-An” Santos Tamondong is a Filipino actress-model from San Pablo, Laguna, who will campaign to win the Miss Grand International on October 25 in Bali, Indonesia.

Tamondong won the right to represent the Philippines in the Miss Grand International while also winning Miss Spotlight and Bb. Awards from Philippine Airlines.

During the Question and Answer portion, she was asked by judge Alfredo Pascua about the missing essentials in her life.

Tamondong answered, “I think one of the missing essentials nowadays, especially you came from Generation Z—ay—Generation X, is maybe old telephones. Because the reason why—I remember my dad and I going to a vintage shop and buying a vintage telephone and with that, I can really see the importance of our history and what we came from in the past.”

In 2020, Tamondong won the country’s first Miss Eco Teen international title in Hurghada, Egypt.

Roberta Tamondong will campaign to win the Philippines’ first golden crown of Miss Grand International, following the first runner-up finish of Samantha Bernardo in the Miss Grand Title in 2021.

She will compete in the Miss Grand International 2022 pageant in Bali, which will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, on October 25, 2022.

The Philippines has been known as a pageant powerhouse after collecting a total of 15 crowns from the big four pageants in the world: 4 from Miss Universe, one from Miss World, 6 Miss International crowns, and 4 Miss Earth crowns.

We know that our representatives in the sub-major and minor pageants like Miss Grand International, Miss Globe, and Miss Intercontinental, will put up a true fight and represent the Philippines proudly on the global stage.
