Blockbuster Filipino film “Hello, Love, Goodbye” starring Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo received a nomination for Best Asian Film at the 2019 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA).

The highest-grossing Pinoy movie of all time will be the sole representative of the Philippines in the competition that pits high-caliber films, produced by Asian countries, that have been recognized for creative storylines at international film festivals and at the local and international box office.

The AACTA announced the nomination of “Hello, Love,Goodbye” on October 15 and described the overseas Filipino workers-themed film as a “highly relatable romantic comedy”.

“Hello, Love, Goodbye” tells the story of Joy played by bankable Filipina actress Kathryn Bernardo, a breadwinner and domestic helper in Hong Kong who has to choose between dreams for her family and her love for Ethan, an easy-go-lucky bartender played by Asia’s Multimedia Star and Asian Star Prize winner Alden Richards.

Aside from breaking ticket sales records, the movie also made Philippine Cinema history for pairing two of the hottest actors from two rival TV networks, ABS-CBN (Kathryn Bernardo) and GMA (Alden Richards).

The movie was also screened in different theaters around the world, and premiered in Seoul during the 1st Korea Pinoy International Film Festival.

“Hello, Love, Goodbye”, directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, is only the second film from the Philippines to be nominated at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards after the 2017 nomination of the movie Birdshot by Mikhail Red which won the Best Asian Future Film Award at the 9th Tokyo International Film Festival.

“Hello, Love, Goodbye” competes among the 9 Best Asian Film nominees of the 2019 AACTA:

  • ANDHADHUN (Dir. Sriram Raghavan, INDIA)
  • GULLY BOY (Dir. Zoya Akhtar, INDIA)
  • HELLO LOVE GOODBYE (Dir. Cathy Garcia-Molina, PHILLIPINES)
