Filipino tennis sensation Alexandra “Alex” Eala has booked her first professional tennis semifinals appearance after overcoming a 3-hour battle against a top-seeded opponent at the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Women’s World Tennis Tour in Manacor, Spain.

Alex Eala, the 15-year-old ITF Junior No. 3 ranked player, battled the 19-year-old Top 5 seeded and ITF Singles World No. 14 ranked Carole Monnet of France in the quarterfinals on January 22, 2021.

The teen tennis champion executed a come-from-behind win and eventually emerged victor, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, at the W15 Manacor tournament.

“Happy to have pulled through a 3 hour match today in the quarterfinals,” posted Alex Eala on social media.

The reigning Australian Open Grand Slam Doubles Champion from the Philippines earlier battled the top-seeded and ITF Singles No. 2 ranked Seone Mendez of Australia to reach her first-ever quarterfinals spot in an ITF tour.

The Rafa Nadal Academy scholar opened her 2021 season campaign with a strong routing of Italian opponent Anna Paradisi.

Eala’s quarterfinals victory propels her to a semifinals match against Adithya Karunaratne of Hong Kong on January 23. Once she gets past the fellow Asian player, the Filipino champion will face the winner of the other semis match between France and Spain.

Alex Eala entered the ITF W15 Manacor tournament as a Main Draw Junior Reserved player by virtue of her being in the ITF Top 100 Junior Ranking.

The W15 Manacor tournament has a prize pot of $15,000 and will run until January 24.
