Filipino celebrity Anne Curtis has joined the call of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for the full implementation of the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act in the Philippines.

The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador made her plea on social media as Philippine legislators debated on lowering the age of criminal liability of Filipino children from 15 to 12 or 9.

Anne Curtis echoes the UNICEF position: “Children in conflict with the law are already victims of circumstance, mostly because of poverty and exploitation by adults.” Credits to Anne Curtis.

“I stand with them for NOT lowering the criminal age of responsibility but instead supporting the full implementation of the current law of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.

I understand that there are those who see differently but if you could only try and discern that they are STILL CHILDREN, are victims of their circumstance and are still young enough to change their ways,” posted Curtis on Instagram.

The popular actress and television host recommended for children in conflict with the law to be helped and given a second chance.

Curtis also noted success stories resulting from the proper implementation of the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act.

“It cannot fail IF IT IS FULLY IMPLEMENTED… I stand with UNICEF as they call on the Government to work with child rights defenders and strengthen the juvenile justice system
