The Philippines’ Asian Games champion, Yuka Saso, has just won the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association (JLPGA) tour, becoming the first Filipina golfer to claim the title.

The 19-year-old Filipino-Japanese golfer topped the NEC Karuizawa championship on August 16, 2020, in Kitasaku-gun, Negano Prefecture in Japan.

“Marking 63 with 1 eagle and 7 birdies, it was an overwhelming victory with 4 strokes ahead of 2nd place,” the JLPGA described Saso’s win.

Saso secured her win in the 2020 Japan LPGA tournament which was held without an audience due to the COVID 19 pandemic, bagging the prize money worth 14,400,000 Japanese Yen (Php 6.6 million).

Japan’s Saito Fujita and Mai Wakabayashi placed a joint second in the golfers’ championship.

Saso, along with Lois Go and Bianca Pagdanganan copped double golds in women’s golf at the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.

Saso soared to the Top 20 spot in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) by the end of July 2019.

Yuka Saso also won a junior golf title in the Girls Junior PGA Championship in Hartford, Connecticut.
