The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Philippines turned over its Automated Guideway Transit prototype train to the Bataan Peninsula State University in Balanga City, Bataan on March 14.

DOST, which also recently introduced the state-of-the-art 3D printing facility in the country, reported on social media that the Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) is a train that can run up to the speed of 60 kph and could carry 30 passengers as it travels. DOST engineers developed the train system through the help of DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center.

Fortunato de la Peña, Secretary of DOST Philippines announced that the granting of the AGT prototype to the BPSU will improve the Academic Program in Railway Engineering. BPSU plans to utilize the AGT to create the BS Railway Engineering program.

DOST Secretary de la Peña also said that the new automated train prototype also serves as a method to develop human resources with the use of advance technology to improve the transportation in remote areas so people will be able to work with ease.
