The Philippine Azkals’ Filipino-Australian footballer Joshua Grommen was voted one of the 11 best players in the Malaysia Super League.

Grommen, who signed up for Petaling Jaya City Football Club, was listed by the Malaysian Football League among the best 11 from all teams tagged as “Team of the Week” of the Super League.

On the league’s Instagram post last February 4, the Azkal footballer was tagged as the lone player from PJ City listed among the best players.

Though he just started his game in the Super League, the 22-year-old Fil-Aussie was described by Head Coach K. Devan as a pillar for his team PJ City.

Devan told The Star Online, “He is a young defender with a good attitude. Joshua is determined to give his best in all matches and told me that he wants to play in every game, even through the pain,” said Devan.

On February 2, the centreback Grommen was hailed as his team’s “unsung hero” for playing against Melaka at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong, Malaysia despite his injured shoulder.

Although the team lost to their opponent, Grommen was praised for managing to play and complete the match despite a dislocated shoulder – earning praises for his bravery, determination and professionalism.

Malaysian Football League put the spotlight on Grommen in their Instagram post for his courage and professionalism:

“Remember his name – Joshua Grommen. This guy is a warrior. Finish the game with dislocated arm. He is a beast. Never give up easily. Fight like a warrior. This is the spirit. No dive no fake injury.”

Head Coach K. Devan added he also hopes that other players would be inspired with Grommen’s performance and attitude in the game.

“That dedication and professionalism are laudable, and I hope the other players will learn from this young man,” he added.

Joshua Grommen is the only import football player with Filipino blood to play in the Malaysian Super League this 2019.
