Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings players recently got together not to party or play basketball, but in a show of unity off the court to help in COVID-19 response.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) 2019 Governors’ Cup champions visited the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) compound in Ortigas on May 6, 2020, to help repack thousands of face masks for donation to the nation’s health facilities.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel veterans Mark Caguioa, LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, star rookies Arvin Tolentino, Jerrick Balanza, and Kent Salado, joined the coach Tim Cone and deputies Richard Del Rosario and Olsen Racela, team manager Rayboy Rodriguez, and team governor, and SMC sports director Alfrancis Chua in preparing the personal protective equipment for distribution to around 16 Philippine hospitals.

The COVID-19 response activity brought the team together for the first time since the PBA postponed the current Season 45 games just a few days after it opened in March 2020. The move was in compliance with the community quarantine to stop the spread of COVID-19 which disallowed mass assemblies including sports events.

“It was nice seeing the guys & catching up. We’re glad to help our frontliners in our own little way. Keep safe everyone, hopefully konting tiis nalang.🙏🏽,” Japeth Aguilar posted on Instagram.

Former league MVP Mark Caguioa posted an appreciation for the chance to work with the team and to SMC President and COO Ramon S. Ang for the company’s efforts to help Filipinos during the public health crisis.

“Its great to see everyone helping to fight this Covid stay safe and stay home 🙏🙏🙏 Boss RSA nag papasalamat po kami sa lahat ng itinutulong nyo po sa buong Pilipinas we love you and we thank you,” Caguiao posted on Instagram.

Veteran pointguard LA Tenorio also posted his declaration of unity on Instagram. “Sama-sama laban sa Covid-19! Walang Iwanan! Never Say Die!! 👊,” posted La Tenorio.

SMC has been actively working on providing assistance to the nation with donations of swabbing booths to LGUs, high-capacity testing machines, and COVID-19 test kits to increase the country’s capacity for mass testing.

SEND CHEERS in the comments below to Barangay Ginebra for getting together to help in COVID-19 response efforts.
