BREAKING NEWS: Olympics-bound Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial has just won his first professional bout in Los Angeles.

Marcial, the Philippines’ Olympic hope for its first gold medal, won by unanimous decision after battling American boxer Andrew Whitfield in four rounds as they faced off in the Premier Boxing Champions event on December 17, 2020 (Philippine Time) at the Microsoft Theater.

The 25-year-old Marcial displayed dominance in the fight, landing 120 punches against Whitfield’s 46, as he was cheered on by Filipinos and supporters from around the world who watched the fight live on his YouTube vlog.

Marcial said in an earlier media interview that he valued the fight as part of his training for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where he may meet boxers who have also turned professional.

The Zamboangueno fighter has signed with Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions and is currently training with Freddie Roach at the Hollywood-based Wild Card Boxing Club.

Eumir Marcial is a 30th SEA Games gold medalist for Team Philippines and a Silver medalist at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships.
