BREAKING NEWS: the University of the Philippines (UP) climbed 30 notches in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asian University Rankings released today.

The Philippine state university was revealed on June 3, 2020, to be in 65th rank among top universities in Asia for 2020, up from its 95th ranking in 2019.

UP’s rise in ranking this year is credited to its high scores in Citation with 86.9 points and Industry Income at 39.4 points. The other two criteria are Teaching and International Outlook, the same criteria used by its World University Rankings.

The national university was first listed in the London-based THE Asia University Rankings in 2017 at 201st-250th rank. UP’s rank went up to 156th in 2018 and entered the top 100 for the first time in 2019.

UP had previously registered a climb of 100 places from its 2019 ranking to break into the world’s top 500 educational institutions in the 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR).

The only other Philippine educational institution in THE WUR and THE AUR is De La Salle University, currently ranked the 301-350 bracket in the Asian rankings.

The University of the Philippines also led 7 Philippine universities in the 2020 Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings and Asia University Rankings.
