Filipino champion gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo has been featured on the 2019 World Champions series by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

The Philippines’ Olympic Gold medal hope in gymnastics was the featured athlete on the FIG’s social media series posted on Instagram.

Presented as the 2019 World Champion in Floor Exercise, Yulo was featured in a FIG video summarizing his championship win at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany last October 2019.

“#2019WorldChampions: After breaking through with bronze last year, Carlos Yulo 🇵🇭 flew to a historic 🥇 on Floor Exercise at #Stuttgart2019 as the first Filipino gymnast to become a World champion in #Gymnastics. 🤸‍♂🤸‍♂🤸‍♂ #ArtisticGymnastics,” wrote FIG social media on a video summary of Yulo’s winning routine.

The video showed how Yulo somersaulted his way to the championship and the proud moment when he sang the Philippine National Anthem as the Philippine flag was flown for the first time at the Worlds.

Carlos Edriel Yulo made two historic firsts at the 2019 FIG Stuttgart World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The Filipino gymnast secured a berth for the Philippines in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan during the preliminaries and then went on to win the gold and the World Floor Exercise Champion title, a first for the Philippines and Southeast Asia at the Worlds.

Yulo again made the Filipino people proud by winning his first gold at the Southeast Asian Games in December 2019.

Yulo’s journey as a gymnast was also recently featured on the MILO video series that also previously presented inspiring Filipino athletes including volleyball’s Alyssa Valdez and the UP Fighting Maroons’ basketball brothers Juan and Javi Gomez De Liano. The 19-year-old gymnastics champion went on social media to talk about inspiration.

“Ang aking tagumpay ay para sa lahat ng naniwala, gumabay, at sumuporta sa akin mula sa umpisa. Para sa mga kapwa ko atleta, ang tagumpay na ito ay para sa ating lahat. Let’s continue to bring pride and honor for the Philippines.

Para sa inyo at para sa ‘Pinas, laban!” wrote Carlos on his social media following the release of his MILO video ad.

Carlos Edriel Yulo and fellow Tokyo Olympics qualifier Ernest John Obiena are now preparing to compete in Japan this July.
