American TV series Off Topic

World-renowned travel destination Cebu in Central Philippines has been announced as a filming location of the new American television series “Off Tropic” starring Christian Kane and directed by Filipino-American Dean Devlin.

Director Dean Devlin brought Christian Kane, Off Tropic lead actor and star of hit US TV series The Librarian, Angel, Leverage, among many others, to the Philippines for his contract signing, location hunt, casting calls, and production meetings.

Devlin, best known for his work on iconic American films Independence Day, Godzilla, The Patriot, and Geostorm, will produce and direct the new series.

The Fil-Am director, who traces his parental heritage to Iloilo through his actress-mother Pilar Hernandez Seurat, said he has looked forward to actually filming in the Philippines some 22 years after he last visited the country.

“It’s a lifelong dream to get do something here, I wish my mom was alive to see it… I haven’t spent much time here and now we get to do a show here,” said Devlin during his contract signing on September 20 with ABS-CBN International, the 10-part series’ line producer.

“We’re trying to show the Philippines to people from the United States and around the world in a way that they’ve never seen before,” added Devlin who shared the series will be filmed in several locations all over the Philippines. The two went location hunting over the weekend in Cebu, a World’s Best Islands awardee.

Hollywood actor-musician Christian Kane said he is also glad to be back in the country to film.

“It’s great to be back, I love this country, there’s so many great people, so many colors here, it’s going to be fun… I don’t think the US has seen anything like this on TV before and we’re so excited to bring it home,” said Kane who is also in the country to meet the Filipino actors he will work with on the series.

“That’s why I flew in town for, I’m reading lines with them, everyone wants to see the chemistry and stuff,” added Kane.

ABS-CBN reports said Devlin and Kane were welcomed to the country by ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak, Chairman Mark Lopez, and Chief Operating Officer for Broadcast Cory Vidanes.

Off Tropic will be filming in Cebu by November.

Hollywood filmmakers have previously showcased the Philippines and Filipinos in films such as Fox’s Maledicto, Crazy Rich Asians, Paddington, among many others.
