Cebu-based Kenneth Cobonpue has won the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) Selects Awards for his Dolce bed.
The multi-awarded furniture designer and manufacturer’s soft woven bed that looks like a personal bubble won the Bedroom Category in the industry awards that recognize design innovation, quality construction, and environmental responsibility.
Cobonpue’s design was one of the 12 winners at the IFDA Selects Awarding Ceremonies on April 4, 2022, held at High Point Market in North Carolina, U.S.A.
The Filipino designer bested finalists Corbel Bed from Hooker Furnishings and Frank Platform Bed by Huppé to be declared the Bedroom casegoods Winner: Dolce from Kenneth Cobonpue, Judge: John Conrad.
Cobonpue was given a blue ribbon and framed commemorative award to display, and gained an automatic entry at the International Society of Furniture Designers (ISFD) Pinnacle Awards, the industry’s top prize for product designers to be held during the October Market.
“Sleep in your own personal bubble isolated from the outside world, and drift off to a world of sweet dreams with Dolce. This soft woven bed’s unique organic shape makes you wish you can hibernate, and never leave its plush embrace,” goes the website description of Kenneth Cobonpue’s Dolce Bed.
Kenneth Cobonpue’s many international recognitions include winning the U.S. Product Design Competition in Las Vegas with his Peacock Easy Chair, being presented at the Berlin Trade Show and at the Paris Maison Objet Trade Show, and receiving the Interior Design Best of Year Award.
The world-renowned designer returned to his native Cebu in the Philippines in 1996 to manage his furniture design and manufacturing company. He has since been involved in various local projects like the World Architecture Awards finalist Ateneo Chapel and winner Mactan Cebu Terminal 2 and has redesigned Cebu vendors’ stalls for free.
