The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is building a 21st Century Art Museum to mark the institution’s 50th anniversary this year.

CCP announced on October 10 that its new contemporary museum will be called 21AM as it “addresses the relationship of 21st-century artistic idioms and traditional Philippine art.”

The CCP 21AM will be initially set up at the CCP Main Building’s 4th Floor which housed CCP’s Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino (MKP).

The initial exhibitions of 21AM that will replace the MKP will be inaugurated in May 2020.

21AM is being conceptualized and developed by Marian Pastor Roces, the independent curator who also established the MKP.

Roces’ TAOINC, has been commissioned by the CCP to implement the plans for 21AM including:

  1. dismantling of the MKP exhibition
  2. bringing together of both ethnographic and art collections in a unified inventory and storage
  3. implementing the plans for the preliminary, inaugural exhibition in 2020

The CCP has been implementing innovations to celebrate its golden anniversary, among them, the development of a new Filipino writing script, the Baybayan, and a spectacular light and sound show at the CCP Complex in Pasay City to herald the holiday season.

SEND well wishes in the comments below to the CCP for innovating on museum exhibitions!
