CCP has reopened to the public with free screenings of features and panel discussions.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has resumed its live theater shows with the WAGI! Filipino Excellence series celebrating recent wins by Pinoys: in the Nobel Prize in Norway, at the Tokyo Olympics, and in the Venice Film Festival.

The CCP went live on stage in November with an actual audience seated in the theater after more than a year of closure following the Philippines’ prescriptions when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in 2020.

The CCP Main Theater (Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo) stage reopened with the free screening of the award-winning and critically acclaimed documentary “A Thousand Cuts” by filmmaker Ramona Diaz preceded by a panel discussion featuring the first Filipino Nobel Peace Prize winner, Maria Ressa.

The Talkback session was moderated online by Broadcast journalist Cheche Lazaro with panelists Ressa, Diaz, and Patrick Campos, and on the CCP stage by Flor Abanto with Howie Severino, Jonathan De Santos, and Rambo Talambong.

CCP Artistic Director Chris Millado praised Ressa and her Rappler team for fighting for press freedom and recalled Ressa’s short stint in acting in a CCP theater production in 1986.

“The CCP would like to thank and recognize Maria Ressa for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize… Maria’s fight for freedom of expression is intertwined with the Filipino community’s fight for artistic expression,” Millado said during the November 5 reopening of CCP.

The second event of the WAGI! Filipino Excellence Series goes live on November 26 at 7:00 PM at the CCP Main Theater with the free screening of the Atom Araullo Specials report on Team Pilipinas to celebrate the journey of Tokyo Olympics medalists weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, boxers Nesthy Petecio, Eumir Marcial, and Carlo Paalam.

The third event of WAGI! will feature Erik Matti’s On The Job: The Missing 8 which earned for John Arcilla the Best Actor award from the Venice Film Festival.

The CCP observes the 50% audience capacity prescription with only fully vaccinated individuals allowed to join the event.

Following are the CCP health guidelines for the public:

  • Vaccination card/ID, a filled-out health declaration form, and a temperature scan will be required at the entrance
  • Wearing face masks inside the venue is required
  • As a general rule, only children 3-year-old and above accompanied by an adult will be permitted
  • Portable air hepa filters, physical distancing markers, disinfection mats, and automatic alcohol dispensers are installed around the building
  • Contactless ticketing and reduced chokepoints
  • Entrances and exits will be limited and controlled
