The Philippines’ Malagos Chocolate has been named as recipients of five awards at the 10th Academy of Chocolate Awards in the UK.

This is the fourth year in a row – and the biggest awards haul so far – for the Davao-made Malagos Chocolate at the London awards-giving body.

The Philippine chocolate makers also picked up awards from the same UK academy in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Malagos Chocolate marks their 15th international recognition, adding to its prestigious awards from other awards bodies in the UK, France, Germany, and the Association of South East Asian Nations.

Malagos Chocolate received the following 5 recognitions at the 2018 Golden Bean Awards:

  1. SILVER for Malagos 85% Dark Chocolate, DRINKING CHOCOLATE Plain milk-based drinks category
  2. BRONZE for Malagos Unsweetened Chocolate, DRINKING CHOCOLATE Plain milk-based drinks category
  3. BRONZE for Malagos 72% Dark Chocolate, DRINKING CHOCOLATE Plain milk-based drinks category
  4. BRONZE for Malagos 72% Dark Chocolate, BARS Tree to Bar category
  5. BRONZE for Malagos 85% Dark Chocolate, BARS Tree to Bar category

The Philippine chocolate competed among the record-breaking 1,200 entries submitted at the 2018 Academy of Chocolate Awards.

MALAGOS AGRI-VENTURES CORPORATION was cited for producing great-tasting chocolate in competition with traditional chocolate-making producers in the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA, as well as newer producers from over 45 countries.

Sara Jayne Stanes OBE, chair, Academy of Chocolate, said in a release, “We are thrilled to have had a wider global spread than ever before, including innovative producers from the Far and Middle East.

The Malagos chocolate makers of Davao work with 40 small farmers using cacao beans harvested from the foothills of Mount Talomo in Davao, in southern Philippines.

Winners are selected by leading chocolatiers across the industry, and UK’s most prominent chocolate bloggers and food writers in 15 days of deliberations and judging.

Malagos Chocolate and other winners of the Academy of Chocolate 2018 Awards will be announced at ceremonies at Claridge’s in July.
