Dionne Umalla graduates Valedictorian, 5th woman to top Philippine Military Academy

Dionne Umalla leads the Top 5 female cadets of Class “Mabalasik.” Credits EV Espiritu

The graduating class of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) is led by a woman – Cadet First Class Dionne Umalla.

This is the 5th time a female officer is the top graduate of the country’s elite military training school since it allowed women to join the PMA in 1993.

The female cadets have ranked in the Top 10 of PMA graduating classes since 1997.

The 2019 PMA Class has 5 women in the Top 10:

  1. Dionne Umalla
  2. Jahziel Tandoc
  3. Marnel Fundales
  4. Glyn Marapao
  5. Ruth Pasos

The 21-year-old Umalla leads this year’s Class “Mabalasik” in the graduation rites scheduled on May 26, 2019.
