Disney is honoring Filipino Americans with a mouthwatering recipe to make the perfect Filipino chicken adobo.

Marking Filipino American History Month (FAHM) this October, Disney shared an illustrated guide on how to whip up the well-known national dish of the Philippines on its official social media accounts.

The special recipe features the work of Filipina artist Bianca Austria who illustrated Mickey Mouse and his friends Goofy and Donald Duck serving the dish.

The popular Filipino dish can be enjoyed on its own or served with rice, Disney recommends.

“Mickey and friends are here to share a special chicken adobo recipe! #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth,” Disney’s official Facebook page and Twitter account posted on October 22, 2022.

The recipe also noted that Pinoy adobo is distinct from the Spanish or Latin version of adobo, which usually calls for tomatoes, paprika, and other spices.

Check out the full recipe below:

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. chicken, cut into serving pieces
  • 3 pieces dried bay leaves
  • 2/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 5 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorn

Steps

  1. Combine chicken, soy sauce, and garlic in a large bowl and mix. For stronger flavors, marinate the chicken for a few hours.
  2. Heat oil in a pot, then fry the marinated chicken for 2 minutes per side.
  3. Pour in the remaining marinade and water. Bring to a boil.
  4. Add dried bay leaves, sugar, salt, and whole peppercorn. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the chicken is tender.
  5. Add vinegar. Stir and cook for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve right away on its own or with rice!

Disney earlier paid homage to Filipino culture and Christmas traditions in the short animated films “From Our Family To Yours” and “The Stepdad”.

The iconic Filipino adobo dish was also featured by former Disney star and Hollywood celebrity Selena Gomez in her cooking show, Selena + Chef.
