Filipino champion pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena is all set to kick off his 2022 season and continue competing carrying the Philippines’ flag in international competitions in Europe.

After the momentary pause in his activities, Obiena announced his 5 competition schedules for February beginning at the Internationales Stadionfest (ISTAF) Indoor in Berlin where he is set to defend his gold-winning jump from 2021 which broke the Philippine National Indoor Record on pole vaulting and reset it to 5.80 meters.

The Filipino Asian pole vault star athlete will also compete at the Orlen Cup in Łódź, where he again reset the 2021 Philippines’ indoor pole vault record and his own personal best to 5.86 meters.

EJ Obiena also surpassed the Philippine National Outdoor Record and his personal best three times in the 2021 season – 5.85m set in Germany, to 5.87m set in Poland, to 5.91m in Paris, and his historic leap of 5.93 meters in Austria which broke the Asian record of 5.92m held by Kazakhstan’s Igor Potapovich for 23 years.

The Filipino pride in pole vaulting was ranked 3rd World Top Pole Vaulter after his spectacular 2021 season.

The 26-year-old Filipino Olympian announced his February 2022 competition schedule on social media:
