Filipino filmmaker Erik Matti is bringing the taste of Philippine horror tales to the second season of HBO Asia’s Original horror anthology series, Folklore.

After making a big hit with the “Island of Dreams” episode of “Food Lore” for which Matti won the Best Director award, the Filipino filmmaker will again direct a Philippine episode of the seven-part hour-long series, as announced by Reality Entertainment (RE) on December 1, 2020.

“We are proud to announce that Director Erik Matti will be directing the Philippine episode for the HBO Asia Original horror anthology series, Folklore. Direk Erik joins an impressive lineup of directors representing different territories in Asia,” wrote RE on its Facebook.

The award-winning director and writer of films BuyBust, Honor Thy Father, and On the Job, will be joined by 6 talented regional directors from Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan, each bringing a different take and perspective to the series.

Folklore’s Season 2 ‘The Fear Continues’ will “ramp up the fear factor” to follow the highly successful 1st season that featured six stories based on myths and superstitions in Asia.

The new season will tackle stories that will “examine the human condition when exposed to supernatural powers in a mind-bending race against oneself” – described RE.

Matti will showcase the Pinoy brand by concentrating on Philippine horror legend. This is also the first time the country will be featured in the horror anthology.

The highly-anticipated second season of Folklore will premiere in 2021 on HBO GO and HBO.

More Filipinos have been recognized in various international film festivals like the 3 filmmakers who won top awards at the 36th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), and Lav Diaz who bagged the Best Director award at Venice Film Festival.

SEND CHEERS and CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to award-winning filmmaker Erik Matti for bringing Philippine horror tales to the new season of HBO Asia’s Folklore.
