Filipino-American rock legend June Millington of the pioneering all-women rock band, Fanny, will be inducted into the 2022 Class of the New England Music Hall of Fame (NEMHOF).

June will be honored in this year’s induction ceremony as the trailblazing lead guitarist and co-founder of Fanny, a ground-breaking rock band that she founded with her sister, Jean Millington, and which rose to fame in the 1970s.

Born in Manila, June immigrated to the United States with her sister where they both found success in the music industry and were hailed as rock pioneers who broke barriers for women in music.

Founded by the two Filipino-American sisters, Fanny made history as the first all-female rock band to release an album on a major label and has paved the way for other women rock icons.

June will be inducted into New England’s Music Hall of Fame at the Music Collectibles Extravaganza event where the group’s new documentary film, “Fanny: The Right to Rock,” will be shown starting April 8, 2022.

June is a guitarist, songwriter, producer, educator, pioneer, and actress, and is also the co-founder and artistic director of the non-profit Institute for the Musical Arts (IMA), which supports women and girls in music.

The New England Music Hall of Fame was founded in 2019 its mission is to “educate, unite, promote, and preserve the integrity of the New England music scene.”

June has organized a fundraising effort for her sister, Jean, who suffered a stroke. “My sister Jean has had a stroke, and needs our help. As most of you know, she is a bass player extraordinaire/singer and we started actually by playing ukeleles together as kids in the Philippines, and singing our hearts out,” the crowdfunding site notes. Donate to her sister’s gofundme here.

Proudly Filipino-American women musicians like Grammy winner H.E.R. and teen pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo are creating history and making waves for their music.
