Filipino-Canadian voice actor Eric Adrian Bauza is playing the new voice of the iconic childhood cartoon character Bugs Bunny in the upcoming ‘Space Jam 2.’
The 41-year-old actor from Ontario, Canada shared his story of being Bugs Bunny’s voice in the sequel to the hit 1996 film in a video with CBC News on December 7, 2020, after being cast early last year.
“Hey Mom… I’m on the News!!! Thank u @cbcnews for this once in a lifetime opportunity to share my story,” posted Bauza on social media.
Bauza will be voicing the adorable Looney Tunes’ character alongside TIMES Magazine’s Athlete of the Year 2020 and NBA superstar Lebron James, who will be playing as himself in the movie.
“Space Jam: A New Legacy,” which follows the adventure story of James and the Looney Tunes gang, is another break for the Fil-Canadian voice actor who has already been voicing Bugs Bunny in the Warner Bros. Animation-produced “Looney Tunes Cartoons” on HBO Max.
“When I first stepped into the voice booth as Bugs Bunny, it was surreal. It was a dream come true, definitely a task I was up for but it’s just so hard to fill the shoes that Mel Blanc (original voice of Bugs) left behind,” narrated Bauza.
“I wouldn’t believe it. I think it’s something that you wouldn’t expect. Who grows up thinking that they’re gonna voice Bugs Bunny? not a lot,” the Fil-Canadian happily added.
From nailing Bugs Bunny’s famous line “What’s up, Doc?” Bauza also used to voice other members of the Looney Tunes gang like Duffy Duck, Tweety Bird, and Marvin The Martian.
Even during his early days, Bauza had a knack for impressions by mimicking his teachers and cartoon characters which later paid off as he is now making a living as a successful voice actor.
Aside from voice acting, Bauza is also a stand-up comedian, brief late-night host, and animation artist.
Filipino actors voicing animation include Cathy Ang who voices Fei-Fei in the NETFLIX animated musical film “Over the Moon,” and Wreck It Ralph 2’s head of story Josie Trinidad who also voices for Disney animation.
