The head chef of Singaporean establishment Lolla was among the winners of the annual culinary event announced in a virtual ceremony on May 19, 2021.

The World Gourmet Awards (WGA) recognized Siy’s cuisine as “mindful, produce-driven and reflects her culinary upbringing in modern European fine-dining.”

Johanne Siy grew up in Dagupan, Philippines, and studied at The Culinary Institute of America in New York City, where she learned from culinary giants Chef Eric Ripert and Chef Daniel Boulud at Le Bernardin and Café Boulud.

The Filipino chef has worked in some of the best kitchens in New York, Singapore, and Europe, including world-renowned restaurants like Noma and Relae in Copenhagen, and Faviken in Sweden.

Established in 2001, the WGA honors the key players in the food and beverage industry in Singapore who demonstrated exceptional service and utmost dedication to their craft.

The annual awards also honored Singapore-based Filipino Remz Ocampo who received the Borders Distillery Mixologist of the Year award.

This year, Filipino-British Chef Josh Boutwood of The Test Kitchen in Manila was named the “Young Talent of the Year” by La Liste, a restaurant finder and gastronomic ranking system based in France.
