Filipina Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach donated face masks to COVID-19 frontliners in Metro Manila.
Pia Wurtzbach and her friends created a small team with the goal of providing personal protective equipment to the Philippines’ frontliners working to fight COVID-19.
The initiative assists health workers, a number of whom have been infected with the disease and even succumbed to death. The inadequate personal protective equipment has been pointed out by many hospitals as a problem even as medical workers continue to treat patients despite the lack of PPEs.
Their goal is to accumulate and distribute 25,000 pieces of Surgical Face Masks to the different hospitals around Metro Manila.
Pia Wurtzbach handed out the first batch of 11,900 masks to 12 hospitals on April 6, 2020.
The third Filipina Miss Universe donated another 15,000 masks on April 12 for 15 hospitals.
Last April 17, the Miss Universe 2015 winner donated another batch of 15,000 face masks for 15 hospitals in Metro Manila.
The total number of masks donated have exceeded their target.
“Thank you so much for all your donations, you made this happen! 🙏 But we want to continue. In 2015, Pia was crowned Miss Universe ending the Philippines’ 42-year wait for the next Filipina to bring home the Miss Universe crown.
Wurtzbach again made history with her passing-of-the-crown moment immortalized through a Madam Tussaud’s wax figure – the first time a Filipino joined the House of Madame Tussaud’s.
Filipina Miss Universe titlists Catriona Gray and Pia Wurtzbach have spoken up against cyberbullying.
A cloth face mask filter and a 3D-printed face mask have been developed by Caraga State University (CSU) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to make the wearing of washable face masks safer as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
500,000 washable and repellent face masks are in production using DOST-PTRI technology.
