Filipina teen tennis champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala has won her second women’s professional championship title at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour in Thailand.

The 16-year-old Eala picked up her newest trophy and $25,000 prize money at the finals of W25 Chiang Rai on April 10, 2022, after overwhelming the hometown bet and Southeast Asian Games champion Luksika Kumkhum, 6-4, 6-2.

On her way to claiming the championship, Eala had a string of decisive victories. The Filipina athlete defeated YeXin Ma of China, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals match.

In the quarterfinals, Eala won against Momoko Kobori of Japan, 6-3, 6-3.

In the 2nd round, the Filipina athlete dispatched Patcharin Cheapchandej of Thailand, 6-3, 6-4.

Eala started the first round of the tournament against Serbia’s Katarina Kozarov, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Eala adds the W25 Chiang Rai championship title to her first professional tournament victory at the W15 Manacor in Spain last January 2021.

The scholar-athlete at Rafa Nadal Academy started playing tennis at 4 years old and has earned several junior titles including the single and doubles wins at JA Milan and the French Open doubles, both in 2021.

Alex Eala is set to represent the Philippines for the first time at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam scheduled in May.
