Filipino-American rapper Saweetie is hosting the upcoming 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Budapest, Hungary.
The musician who paid homage to her Black and Filipino roots during the recent Met Gala in New York will also take the stage and perform her hits “Best Friend” and “Back to the Streets” in the star-studded awards show set to be broadcast live in Hungary in November.
Saweetie, whose real name is Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, was born to a Filipino-Chinese mother and an African-American father. She grew up in the Bay Area in California, U.S.A.
The 28-year-old singer is also nominated in the MTV EMA “Best New” category, alongside fellow Filipino-American Olivia Rodrigo and musicians including the Giveon, Rauw Alejandro, Griff, and The Kid LAROI.
Saweetie who was earlier honored in Gold House’s annual A100 List alongside fellow outstanding artists with Filipino roots such as Rodrigo and H.E.R. said she will spring surprises for fans watching the MTV EMA.
“Anything can happen at the MTV EMAs,” Saweetie said in an MTV EMA announcement on October 28, 2021.
“The EMAs celebrate the universal language of music for the whole world to see and I can’t wait to get out there and perform because I’ve got some surprises of my own!” Saweetie adds.
Saweetie will host and perform at the MTV EMA which will be broadcast live across 180 countries and feature a slew of top performances in Budapest, Hungary on November 14, 2021, at 9 p.m. (CET).
Pinoy pop group SB19 is also nominated for the MTV EMA’s Best Southeast Asian Act.
