Filipino-Austrian artist JJ has won the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, giving Austria its third victory in the competition’s history.
JJ was announced as the winner during the live broadcast of the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, held on May 17 at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, following the Semi-Finals on May 13 and 15.
JJ captured a total of 436 votes after his emotional “Wasted Love” performance, edging out Israel and Estonia. The contest was hosted by Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR and organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
In the winners’ press conference, JJ whose full name is Johannes Pietsch, expressed what made him happiest about the win, saying “that love wins. In my song I was talking about how love is wasted, but love wins. Spread love, forget hate, love is the strongest force.”

When asked about becoming Austria’s third Eurovision winner, following Udo Jürgens in 1966 and Conchita Wurst in 2014, JJ shared: “We say in Austria that all good things come in threes – I’m so honoured to be up there with these two. And also to be the first half-Filipino to win.”
According to the official Eurovision report, JJ is a Filipino-Austrian classical music artist based in Vienna. “A countertenor with a distinctive voice that can reach soprano heights, JJ has already made a name for himself in the classical music world,” says Eurovision.
