Filipino champion MMAs Louie Sangalang and Lara Pearl Alvarez have survived the first round of challenges in the premiere of The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition in Asia on AXN.

The March 18, 2021, debut of the toughest “The Apprentice” edition that was shot in Singapore showed the two Filipinos among the 16 contestants facing challenges designed to push candidates beyond their limits not just physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The candidates were grouped into two teams by ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, placing Sangalang in Team Valor and Alvarez in Team Conquest.

The inaugural episode that was shown to audiences in Southeast Asia, China, and India showed Filipino MMA champion Louie Sangalang leading his Team Valor to victory in the Relay Challenge. The team also won the Business Challenge and emerged as the overall winners in the inaugural round.

Filipina mixed martial artist warrior Lara Alvarez was meanwhile seen in danger of being eliminated from the show after her team lost both challenges but was saved from an early exit after the round was declared a non-elimination challenge.

Sixteen global candidates are vying for the top prize in the toughest The Apprentice.

The candidates are competing for a one-year, US$250,000 job offer to work directly under Chatri as his protege at ONE Championship.

Baguio’s female MMA warrior Lara Alvarez is fighting for her son’s future in The Apprentice and is joined by MMA champion Louie Sangalang in representing the Philippines on the show.
