Liter of Light was announced among the festival’s two awardees, alongside UK-based King’s Cross, which won in the Community category.
Greentech Festival presented the Liter of Light as the winner of its energy competition in the awards ceremony held in London’s Skyloft on November 4, 2021.
Founder and Filipino Pride Advocate Illac Diaz received the award during the prestigious festival which is focused on green technology and honoring the most innovative projects to advance sustainability around the world.
“Incredibly honored to be able to win the Green Tech Festival in the Energy Category at Greentech Festival,” Illac Diaz said in a Facebook post.
“Thank you to A Liter of Light (Isang Litrong Liwanag) and all the Philippine and Global Partnerships that has made our journey for People and Planet possible!” Diaz added.
The Filipino social enterprise is behind the Light it Forward campaign, which previously won the Asia Pacific innovation award for calling on the help of celebrities, ordinary Filipinos, and the youth under quarantine to create hand-built solar lamps for far-flung communities without electricity.
The locally-registered Non-Government Organization carried its own simultaneous campaign giving voice to Filipinos who were calling for urgent climate action through giant billboards of Solar Messages of Hope. Diaz’ team even collaborated with Scottish youth and Saint Andrews University to build the billboards in Glasgow where the COP26 was being held.
