Filipinos across the nation simultaneously applaud healthcare workers in frontlines of fight against COVID-19

A social media campaign using the hashtag #frontlinersPH has been circulating since Sunday asking for a nationwide action to thank healthcare workers for battling against COVID-19.

UPDATED. Filipinos have expressed thanks to healthcare workers with simultaneous applause that rang throughout the Philippines at 5 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2020.

In a unified display of gratitude to the unheralded healthcare workers – doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, scientists, hospital staff – the applause was heard ringing in hospital facilities, buildings, streets, and even more on social media as people tweeted and posted messages for #frontlinersPH

Aleeyah Jowen @CreepTonite07 tweeted a Bible verse dedicated to health workers, “I dedicate this verse (Philippians 1:3-4) to the health workers and frontliners.

EARLIER. Netizens in the Philippines circulated the social media call for Filipinos to thank healthcare workers who have been working nonstop to fight COVID-19, asking everyone to join the nationwide simultaneous action today, Monday, at 5 p.m.

The call to action using the hashtag #frontlinersPH that started going around social media over the Sunday bears a poster that asks everyone to pause their activities on March 16, 2020, at 5 p.m. to join the symbolic action of thanking the health workers in the frontline of the battle against COVID-19.

“Please take a moment and stop whatever you are doing to show support for our heroes.

“Go to your balcony, window, rooftop and for two minutes and join the rest of the nation in showing our appreciation and thanks for our health workers by uploading as loud as you can, we want them to hear it from their hospitals and ERs while they save lives and keep us all safe.

“Doctors, nurses, ER and medical staff all deserve our recognition and support. Please spread the word and send this message to as many people as possible.

LET THEM HEAR US SUPPORT THEM IN THIS TIME OF NEED”

Netizen @nitzcape responded to the call and thanked all health professionals, tweeting, “Magkaisa tayo bukas na ipakita ang pasasalamat at appreciation sa health professionals ng bansa na gumagamot at nag-aalaga sa COVID patients.#frontlinersPH”

Twitter user @aavel posted: “We salute our pinoy DOCTORS, NURSES, HEALTHCARE, WORKERS, HOSPITALS and STAFF,
who are our heroes in the fight against the COVIC-19 pandemic Taos Puso po na PASASALAMAT for all your sacrifice and dedication to ensure and safety of our FILIPINO PEOPLE. Mabuhay po kayong lahat!”

User @umhanrivera tweeted “Show them our love, respect and deep appreciation during this time of pandemic. Kudos to our healthworkers!!! #frontlinersPH”

Healthcare worker Carissa Yllana Garlet Panaglima went on Facebook to acknowledge the support saying, “Thank you for supporting us throughout this battle against COVID-19. Rest assured that we will do our best to give our service to each and everyone who needed us. May you also pray for us and everyone under our care.”

Media outlets in the Philippines also joined the call to express their gratitude towards the brave doctors and healthcare workers. In Europe, @BBCWORLD posted a video on their twitter where people are seen giving a massive round of applause, as the sound of gratitude to all the health workers who are battling coronavirus, “Applause could be heard across Spain and Italy yesterday as residents clapped from their windows to show gratitude to health workers on the coronavirus frontline. The nationwide events were organised through social media to take place at the same time”.

As escalating cases of COVID-19 in Metro Manila have placed health workers and scientists in the frontline of the fight to control the coronavirus disease, netizens went on Twitter and Facebook to express gratitude for their public service and sent hashtags #SalamatUP and the topic of “thank yous” to trending. Restaurants like Pino have also offered free drinks to healthcare workers in hospitals.
