Filipinos can now travel to 67 countries in 2020.

The new Henley Passport Index (HPI) released on January 7, 2020, indicates that Philippine passport holders are now allowed entry to 67 countries and territories, visa-free.

The strength of the Philippine passport moved up from 77th-ranked with 65 countries accessed in 2019 to 76th spot in 2020 among 107 countries. The country was also on 76th spot in 2016 although with just 61 countries visa-free, out of 104 countries in the index.

The Henley Passport Index rankings are based on the exclusive data from International Air Transport Association (IATA). IATA also maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information. HPI determines the number of countries a passport holder can enter visa-free.

In 2018, the Philippines’ spot was at 75th with 66 countries giving visa-free access to Philippine passport holders.

Here is the list of the 67 countries where Philippine passport holders can travel visa-free. Places marked with (*) will be issued a visa on arrival, while those with (**) will be issued an electronic travel authority upon arrival.

Dr. Christian H. Kälin, Chairman of Henley & Partners and the inventor of the passport index concept has said, “Over the past few years, we have seen the world adapt to mobility as a permanent condition of global life. The latest rankings show that the countries that embrace this reality are thriving, with their citizens enjoying ever-increasing passport power and the array of benefits that come with it.”

The Henley Passport Index places Japan in the top spot with the world’s most powerful passport that allows Japanese passport holders visa-free travel to 191 countries. Second is Singapore with access to 190 countries. Germany and South Korea are both in third place with 189 visa-free access. Italy and Finland’s rank is 4th with visa-free access to 188 countries. In fifth place are the countries of Spain, Luxembourg, and Denmark with visa-free access to 187 countries.

South Korea also welcomes tourists from the Philippines without a visa, if they meet some conditions. Check it out here.
