The Philippines has been hailed by Forbes Magazine as one of the 25 Top Places recommended for American Retirees in the year 2020.

In the Forbes article “The Best Places To Retire Abroad In 2020”, writer William P. Barrett reveals the recommended “hot spots for retirees” were evaluated for cost of living, quality and cost of local healthcare, overall safety, political stability, taxes, local hospitality, weather, food, culture, how easy it is to get by speaking only English, and getting permission to stay.

The Philippines was listed among the Top Places for US Expats to retire” for the following:

  • low cost of living
  • English as an official language
  • adequate and affordable healthcare
  • relatively easy to acquire special resident retiree’s visa
  • untaxed foreign source of income

The Forbes Magazine article released in November 2019 cited Tagaytay in Cavite and Subic Bay, a former U.S. naval base in Luzon.

Forbes previously also named the Philippines’s Tagaytay and Subic Bay as top picks for retirement destinations while the InterNation’s Family Life Index identified the country as one of the world’s best places to raise a family for expats.

In 2019, the Philippines ranked 24th in the “Best Places in the World to Live & Work” rankings released by Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation’s (HSBC) Expat Explorer.
