Forbes names the Philippines billionaires, Villar, Gokongwei & Razon top the list

The Forbes Magazine annual list of the world’s richest named 17 Filipinos among the 2,153 billionaires with Manny Villar Jr., John Gokongwei Jr., and Enrique Razon Jr. leading the local lineup.

Property tycoon Villar is on top of the list for the first time, following the death of former top lister Henry Sy Sr.

The six Sy children are now in the 2019 edition of Billionaires: The Richest People in the World list released on March 5.

Here are the 17 Richest Filipinos:

  1. Manuel Villar, real estate, ranked at 317th, estimated net worth – $5.5 billion
  2. John Gokongwei Jr., industrialist, 343rd – $5.1 billion
  3. Enrique Razon Jr., operator international port and integrated gaming resort, 379th – $4.8 billion
  4. Lucio Tan, tobacco, 436th – $4.4 billion
  5. Tony Tan Caktiong and family, Jollibee, 529th – $3.9 billion
  6. Ramon Ang, San Miguel Corp. and Eagle Cement, 775th – $2.9 billion
  7. Andrew Tan, Megaworld, 838th – $2.7 billion
  8. Hans Sy, SM Corporation, 962nd (tied) – $2.4 billion
  9. Herbert Sy, SM Corporation, 962nd (tied) – $2.4 billion
  10. Harley Sy, SM Corporation, 1,057th (tied) – $2.2 billion
  11. Henry Jr. Jr., SM Corporation, 1,057th (tied) – $2.2 billion
  12. Teresita Sy-Coson, SM Corporation, 1,057th (tied) – $2.2 billion
  13. Elizabeth Sy, SM Corporation, 1,227th – $1.9 billion
  14. Eduardo Cojuangco, San Miguel, 1,605th (tied) – $1.4 billion
  15. Robert Coyiuto, insurance, 1,605th (tied) – $1.4 billion
  16. Ricardo Po, Century Pacific, 1,818th – $1.2 billion
  17. Roberto Ongpin, property development, 1,941st – $1.1 billion

The top three richest people in the world are Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Microsoft’s Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet, with net worth estimated by Forbes as US$131 billion, US$96.5 billion, and US$82.5 billion, respectively.

The Filipino billionaires are listed based on a snapshot of wealth using stock prices and exchange rates from February 8, 2019. An estimated net worth of $1 billion per person is needed to make the cut.
