Gender-fair language practices of DOSTv, the official television program of the DOST, and STARBOOKS school resources of the Department of Science and Technology Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) were hailed for their commitment to the Gender and Development (GAD) agenda and advocacy.

The two flagship programs of the agency’s information center were attributed as key programs during the GAD Executive Briefing on Gender Mainstreaming held in September 2020.

DOSTv provides daily weather, science, and technology videos, and the regular public briefings from DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña and other agencies while STARBOOKS is the digital science library that recently released mobile apps versions.

DOSTv and STARBOOKS were both cited in the recently released Science Communication book of the Australian National University.

DOST-STII was also commended by Maria Fe Singson, Supervising Science Research Specialist and the Department of Science and Technology-Gender and Development Focal Point System (DOST-GFPS), for its timely submission of the Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Framework (GMEF) scoresheet, citing its improved evaluation that has evolved over the past years.

“The agency (DOST-STII) could be the benchmark of other DOST agencies,” said Singson.

Richard P. Burgos, DOST-STII director and GFPS chairperson credited the achievement to the whole system’s collective effort and support from the management. He also emphasized that this is only the beginning of the agency’s GAD mainstreaming.

The GAD Executive Briefing also served as a refresher course on Gender Mainstreaming that helped the agency design the next steps towards their GAD goals.

SEND CHEERS in the comments below to DOST-STII and its DOSTv and STARBOOKS programs for their gender-fair language practices.
