It was an absolute pleasure to catch up with rising Filipino American talent Charlie St. Cyr, who is making waves across books, film, and TV!
Charlie just released his debut novel Boyfriend Mo?, a romantic comedy now available as an eBook on Amazon Kindle and Rakuten Kobo. The print version drops on October 4, but fans can already preorder at charliestcyr.com.
Describing his book, Charlie shared:
“One guarded heart. One determined grad student. And a love story that might need subtitles.”
The story follows Devonté, a grad student from New Orleans who falls for Tala, a no-nonsense Filipina from the Bay Area. With humor, heart, and a few cultural missteps, Devonté sets out to win her over—if he can survive her traditional family and her mysterious past.
Charlie’s passion for telling stories continues beyond the page. He had his first big speaking film role in The Wedding Hustler, which premiered in February 2023 in the U.S. and in SM Cinemas in the Philippines. The film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and features Kane Lim of Netflix’s Bling Empire and a cameo from Filipina star Heart Evangelista.
Charlie also appeared in an international film directed by Lav Diaz, playing one of Magellan’s soldiers. While he didn’t have lines, he shared, “I’m grateful to even have worked alongside Direk Lav Diaz.” The film stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Dario Bernal, and the Philippines’ own Ronnie Lazaro. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
In the BL scene, Charlie found his big break in Sashes and Hearts, a 13-episode series by Oxin Films where he played Daniel Smith. The entire series is now free to watch on the Oxin Films YouTube channel.
And if you think you’ve seen Charlie before, you probably did! He appeared on national television in the Philippines as a contestant on Eat Bulaga!’s Foreignoy segment, making it to the Top 20 semifinals across five episodes.
From writing books to performing on global stages, Charlie St. Cyr is proving he’s a storyteller to watch—representing Filipino pride every step of the way.
