Kandama Collective paid homage to Filipino art and culture by showcasing Ifugao fabrics on the runways of Paris Fashion Week held on March 1 at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

The Filipino enterprise launched its Fiesta Filipiniana collection of streetwear, modern gowns and suits infused with Ifugao fabrics as part of their social campaign called #SaveTheWeave to empower indigenous women weavers.

Runway show organizers of the International Indigenous Fashion Week which supports diverse looks of art through fashion and music, joined Kandama in its advocacy of giving Ifugao women economic opportunities while preserving their art of local weaving without harming the environment.

Philippine indigenous fabrics are now getting more world attention after Catriona Gray championed indigenous textile in her outfits for the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand held in December 2018.

The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has also started pushing for the use of local fabrics in the uniforms of government officials and employees.

Kandama Collective was founded by the Singapore International Foundation in 2016 with the assistance from McKinsey & Company under the Young Social Entrepreneurs Program.

The group will have a pop-up store at the U.P. BGC University Parkway Drive from March 8-10, 2019.

Kandama Collective will showcase its Fiesta Filipiniana collection on March 10 in the upcoming Melbourne Fashion Festival at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia.
