Iloilo’s Christopher “Ping” Hurich has scored a nomination from the Asia Skateboarding Awards for Fast Feet, a category that looks at the precision in speed and space used by the feet to execute multiple tricks.

The Iloilo representative in local and national skateboarding competitions was nominated for the category on January 9, 2021, after first receiving a general nomination in December 2020 for the inaugural Asia Skateboarding Awards.

The two-time champion of the Vans National Go Skateboarding Day in 2016 and 2019 was seen in a nominees’ highlights video on Asia Skateboarding Awards social media, alongside some of the most well known and talented skaters in Asia. The video was shot at the Iloilo Public Skatepark.

“Public skateparks at countries like The Philippines may not always be berrics quality but @pingismypersona knows ninja training can be done anywhere!” posted Asia Skateboarding Awards.

Hurich has been credited with raising awareness about the sport in Iloilo province in Western Visayas of the Philippines.

“I want to be able to use my skills as a veteran skateboarder and the positive exposure I’ve gained through winning awards in local/national skateboarding competitions to build better skateboarding facilities and programs that help the youth and existing skateboard community to grow their skills to compete in the global stage,” the Ilonggo athlete shared with Good News Pilipinas.

The Filipino champion athlete says his nomination to the skate international award helps him towards making his goal a reality. He also wishes to help the Iloilo City Sports Development Division headed by Rudiver R. Junco, Sr. and Mayor Jerry Treñas.

In 2021, Chris Hurich is marking 20 years in the skateboarding sport and remains an amateur athlete until he lands a sponsorship with a company that would put his name on its product and turns him into a professional player. He is currently sponsored by Vans Philippines.

Cebu’s Margielyn Didal has also been nominated in the first-ever Asia Skatebiarding Awards for Asia Skater of the Year.
