It Is Better to Give Rather Than To Receive

In boxing, the motto is most likely “It is better to give rather than to receive.”

No boxer would want to receive a knock-out punch from any of his opponent. They would rather be the one to deliver the MANNY PACQUIAO knock-out punch.

But when it comes to resources like time and money, is it definitely better to give rather than to receive?

There may be some who believe that this motto is not applicable to time and money matters, and they have a point. If you only have 24 hours in a day and you spend a good amount of it at your job, business, with friends or even vices, it won’t be much! In fact you will probably need more than 24 hours!

And if you are a minimum-wage earner, struggling to fit your family expenses into your budget, how else can you even give away extra money?

Allow me to share with you the principles about giving and receiving.

IT FEELS BLESSED TO RECEIVE

Do you remember the time when you were a recipient of a gift, attention or anything for that matter, from someone you dearly love?

How did you feel? Happy? Elated? Teary-eyed? You felt blessed, right?

No one will probably contest my point that it feels blessed to receive because it really is a huge blessing to receive a smile, love, time, well-deserved paycheck, and many more. It brings happiness everything someone gives to us.

But the truth is…

IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE

Have you experienced giving a gift to someone who didn’t expect it?

Did you notice their reaction? How did it make you feel? I’m sure you felt even happier than the recipient of your good heart and willingness to bless.

This is not based on any experiment or opinion. It is a fact that it is more blessed to give than to receive because it is a command from God. And God’s Word is truth.

My encouragement to you today is to give without expecting anything in return. Set aside any thoughts of how it will benefit you if you give. Give with no strings attached. No return to sender. Don’t expect to get a much bigger gift just because you gave.

Let us pray and ask God, “Lord, who do you want to bless through me today?”

Giving should be a selfless act. The act of giving in itself is already considered a benefit. Give today and know what I mean.

THINK. REFLECT. APPLY.

Maybe give something once a month. You can give your time by volunteering in a community,

donate to a church or give recognition to an employee. Give, without expecting anything in return. Go ahead and just try because you can never truly grasp the truth about my point if you don’t experience it firsthand.
