Filipino-American Francisco Martin made it to the Top 5 of the American Idol Finale and performed two numbers that received praise from the AI judges.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced the good news of Francisco Martin joining the Top 5 in the Finale at the start of the show that is streamed from the homes of the host, judges, and contestants while under community quarantine to stop the spread of coronavirus disease.

Francisco immediately went on Twitter and Instagram, saying, “We made it to TOP 5 friends. What in the world… This is literally a dream come true. Thank you so kindly. I appreciate you all.”

For his first Finale performance, Francisco Martin slayed with the Harry Styles 2020 hit “Adore You”.

His performance made judge Luke Bryan say that he is so proud that Francisco made it to the Top 5 and that he just enjoyed watching his confidence.

“Thank you for working so hard these past few months,” Bryan said.

“You know Francisco, you are actually in the finals of American Idol and you earned it. Now you have a stage presence even better than that. Congratulations I am so proud of you. I love you, man!” judge Lionel Richie said.

Katy Perry added that Martin deserved to be in the finale. “I saw you smiling on the screen. I mean if you can do that to an iPhone imagine what you will do to a large crowd.”

Francisco Martin’s second performance had the Daly City resident making an encore of his audition piece that had Bryan declare him already a winner.

Martin’s “Alaska” by Maggie Rogers received more positive comments from the judges.

“You are so smooth when you delivered that. It sounded like it was professionally recorded in a studio somewhere. That’s how good it was Francisco. Congratulations!” Katy said.

Luke said that he is so proud to see Francisco performing, “this is the last time that we will get to hear you perform like this in American Idol. I just know the sky is a limit for your career”.

Lionel shared what his elementary school teacher and principal mother had said to him. “What makes a great teacher is that you have great students. You have been a model student, my friend. You have taken all of our notes.”

“Every time I see you, I smile while you are performing because you have delivered the goods on graduation day. God Bless you man,” Lionel added.

Francisco Martin honored his Filipino frontliner mom by singing “River” by Leon Bridges on Mother’s Day as he performed from home.

The 18-year-old from San Francisco, California also impressed Katy Perry when he chose to sing Perry’s “Teenage Dream” as he fought for a spot in the Top 10 of the singing competition.

American Idol announced Just Sam as the season’s winner.
