Villagomez’ video, “Green Your Choice, Green Your Lifestyle,” qualified as one of the 40 finalists of the competition under the Climate Action category.

“Green Your Choice, Green Your Lifestyle is my advocacy to encourage people to make informed decisions and better lifestyle choices,” Villagomez told GoodNewsPilipinas.

“Because most of us are not part of an environment organization, I decided to share how I help the environment even in simple ways and I realized everyone could really relate to the easy-to- do everyday practices and can be inspired to create their own version of green lifestyle, which DLSUD promotes among the Lasallian community,” the UN competition finalist added.

DLSUD has received several international recognitions as the country’s top university on green practice initiatives.

The Lasallian student shared that the inspiration for the video was from his winning poster entry to the 2016 International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability in Shanghai,

China, with United Nations Environment Program in celebration of the World Environment Day. A Broadcast Journalism graduate in De La Salle University- Dasmarinas and a student of MA in English as a Second Language in the same academe, Villagomez says he aims to spread his advocacy through setting up different platforms to raise awareness on climate change action, joining future summits, contests to use as a platform to share my ideas in fighting against climate change.

Two winners will have a chance to go to Marrakech, Morocco, from 7 to 18 November 2016 to attend the COP 22 UN Climate Change Conference. The winners will join the UNFCC newsroom team as youth reporters to help with videos, articles, and social media posts.

The UNCCC competition is part of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Action for Climate Empowerment and Momentum for Change initiatives, which aims to amplify the voice of the youth in shaping a more sustainable future.
