“Yellow Rose”, the musical drama film starring Broadway stars Lea Salonga and Eva Noblezada, and Filipino actress Princess Punzalan is finally screening in the Philippines after making the rounds of festivals and theaters around the world.

Yellow Rose premiered at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in 2019 and afterward, received various recognitions including the 39th annual Hawai‘i International Film Festival Audience Award, Best Feature Awards from the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival, the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, and Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

Yellow Rose is the first Filipino and Filipino-American film to be acquired by Sony Pictures for theatrical release in the United States. The film’s screening in the Philippines through the ABS-CBN Network was earlier announced in late 2019.

The multi-awarded film by Diane Paragas tells the story of the hope among Filipino immigrants in America. Salonga, Noblezada, and Punzalan are part of the story of an undocumented family’s struggle to stay together despite the intervention of immigration authorities.

It is director Paragas’ debut feature film. The Filipino-American filmmaker, who grew up in Texas after her family migrated to the United States during the martial law years in the Philippines, is best known in New York for her documentaries.

Eva Noblezada plays the role of Rose Garcia, an undocumented 17-year-old Filipina dreaming of leaving her Texas town to pursue country music, but faces threats of deportation back to the Philippines when her mom is suddenly captured by ICE agents. Terrified, Rose flees to Austin and embarks on a musical journey of self-discovery.

Princess Punzalan is Rose’s mom, Priscilla, who is in the United States to pursue the American dream.

Lea Salonga plays Rose’s aunt who is faced with a family dilemma as she struggles to provide care for Rose.

ABS-CBN announced on January 20 that Yellow Rose will be made available starting January 29 on the streaming sites KTX.ph and iWant TFC, and the Cignal PPV and Sky Cable PPV.
