Leylah Annie Fernandez displayed championship form on her to the Roland-Garros court, winning her main draw match debut at the ongoing French Open.

Fernandez, who traces her parental heritage to a Filipino mother from Toronto, Canada, and plays under the Canadian flag, won the French Open Junior Girls Singles title in 2019.

Her return to the Roland-Garros court on September 28, 2020, was hailed a thriller as the 100th-seeded tennis champion won against the 31st-seeded Magda Linette of Poland

The 18-year-old Fernandez lost the first set but came back to dominate the 28-year-old Linette, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, in an impressive debut.

Leylah Annie Fernandez will next challenge the 47th-ranked and 29-year-old Polona Hercog in the second round matches.

Filipino tennis champion Alex Eala also ruled her 1st tennis competition amid the lockdown in Spain after her historic Grand Slam Doubles win with Indonesian tennis partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho at the 2020 Australian Open.
