While the tradition of “caroling” has been halted due to the coronavirus threat, Filipino holiday cheers through songs are still pushing through thanks to our very own Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artists who continue to make music.

Aside from livening up the Christmas feels, music also ignites the hope for better days to come for most Filipinos especially during these trying times.

These veteran OPM artists, Filipino bands, and rising stars are here to give glee and make Christmas merry for all of us.

“Have a Merry Christmas” and “Maligayang Pasko” by Itchyworms

The famous Pinoy pop-rock band, who headlined the UK summer music festival in August, gave us Christmas music treats as they released simultaneously on November 2020, two good-vibes Yuletide-themed originals that spread joy and positivity.

“Pasko Na” by Reuben Laurente

ALIW Awardee Reuben Laurente, who helped cruise ship passengers keep their morale high during quarantine, released the original song “Pasko Na” composed and arranged by Arnel De Pano as part of his album “Milestone.”

Reuben is also the singer of the Good News Pilipinas theme song aired on GNP radio during the Luzon-wide ECQ.

“Paskong Pinoy” Medley (Filipino Christmas) by Nilo Alcala

Filipino-American singer/composer Nilo Alcala, who won the coveted American Prize in a music competition in 2019, heralds a beautiful rendition of various famous Filipino Christmas songs such as “Kampana ng Simbahan,” “Noche Buena,” among others in a one-man Acappella medley.

“This one-man-acappella is my tribute to the original Pinoy Christmas carol songsmiths: Juan Silos, Jr., Felipe de Leon, Levi Celerio, at iba pa,” said Alcala.

“Pasko Pa Rin” by Cha-Cha Cañete

Going Bulilit star Cha-Cha Cañete launched the original upbeat Christmas-themed song “Pasko Pa Rin” composed by Jungee Marcelo that tells of how the pandemic has changed the way people celebrate the very special holiday.

“Christmas Daydreams” by Orange & Lemons

Filipino band Orange & Lemons of the popular song “Pinoy Ako” has released a sentimental Christmas music treat “Christmas Daydreams” that gives a feeling of longing – for winter and snow, and for an absent lover.
