Pinoy komiks artist Manuel “Manix” Abrera has revealed his first-ever comic book cover for DC Comics’ “Batman: The Knight” which is slated for release this January 2022.
The famed cartoonist behind the long-running comic strip “Kikomachine Komix” has given fans the first look at the exclusive variant cover that he illustrated for DC Comics’ upcoming series by superstar writer Chip Zdarsky.
The first issue of the new “Batman: The Knight” series by Zdarsky and acclaimed artist Carmine Di Giandomenico about Batman’s origins will feature Abrera’s unique cover art.
Abrera described his cover as being “inspired by alchemy’s “philosopher’s stone” – the transmutation of base metals into gold, wherein enlightenment is reached in distinct processes, according to Next Comic Art’s official Instagram account.
“Young Bruce undergoes the different stages of grief (written on his path to the temple) to be fully transformed into Batman. The temple symbolizes the bat cave (forming a Batman symbol on the chest of Batman silhouette)’ while Lady Justice and his parents’ Graves serve as a reminder for his ultimate purpose in life,” the group shared about Abrera’s cover on Instagram.
Here is the official description of the upcoming first issue of Batman: The Knight:
“The origin of Batman and his never-ending fight against crime in Gotham City is modern mythology- but what of the story in between? How did an angry- damaged young man grow into the most accomplished detective and crime-fighter the world has ever known? How did the Dark Knight…begin?
“Superstar writer Chip Zdarsky (Daredevil) and acclaimed artist Carmine Di Giandomenico (The Flash) will take Bruce Wayne on a fraught journey- making allies and enemies- on his training to become Batman in this definitive new series!”
Abera graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He is known for “Kikomachine Komix,” and his weekly webcomic for GMA News – “News Hardcore!”.
Abrera was among the five Filipino authors who released free comics in the international comic book anthology project for climate action “Ten Years to Save the World” and collaborated with Japanese brand Uniqlo for its Salamat Pilipinas t-shirt collection.
“Batman: The Knight #1” is expected to be released within the 3rd or 4th week of January 2022. Pre-order here.
