Manila a favorite Asia-Pacific Easter weekend travel destination

Manila remains a favorite among the most popular Easter travel destinations among Asia-Pacific travelers in 2018, according to the global online travel booking company Agoda.

Ranked in 3rd place this year, Manila has been in the top 3 spots for Easter bookings over the last three years – getting the top favored spot in 2017, and 2nd spot in 2016.

Agoda.com describes Manila as “consistently popular with Asia-Pacific travelers, remaining in the top three spots year on year.

With the largest Christian population in Asia-Pacific, the Philippines observes public holidays the Thursday and Friday before Easter Sunday. There is no shortage of religious and seasonal events, from street festivals to special Church services, making Manila a top destination for travelers celebrating Easter.”

The Philippine tourism agency recently launched its “Faith Tourism” project to bring in travelers who wish to experience the country’s faith culture and top travel spots at the same time. The famed walled city of Intramuros in Manila is opening its centuries-old churches this Holy Week, some 70 years after World War II as part of its new travel program.

The global travel platform also noted how ”Filipinos prefer to celebrate Easter closer to home with six out of ten of the top destinations this year all within the Philippines namely:

  1. Manila
  2. Cebu
  3. Boracay
  4. Palawan
  5. Batangas
  6. Baguio

The rankings for Manila and other too travel destinations in the Phililppines was collated from destination booking data of Agoda for Easter Weekend dates in 2016, 2017 and 2018 across Asia-Pacific.
